THE RESTAURANT THAT WAS BORN WITH THE TOWN, proclaims the sign. The wood hut doesn’t look like much at first, but there are tables right on the beach, the owners are fishermen and the view amaziingg.
The catch of the day is so fresh it’s practically wiggling. If you haven’t tried the Yucatecan specialty Tikinxic — fish with achiote and bitter-orange sauce, cooked in a banana leaf or the pescado empanizado with Meniere sauce and black beans– this is a good place to start.
Located a couple of blocks ( 2nd Street North ) from the ADO bus station is La Tarraya restaurant in addition to being a beach club for 120 pesos ( 7.5 USD ) have 2 chairs , parasols all day.
Perhaps one of the best things about this restaurant is sitting with a beach view and enjoying a drink. They have very reasonable prices on beer and drinks. It is surprising that they are as cheap as they are. We are taking 25 pesos for beer and 50 pesos for a margarita. The margaritas taste just as good if not better than some of the places on 5th Avenue that charge 110 pesos for one.
