Reporting From Blue Playa Real Estate in Playa del Carmen, Sales Professionals that make buying a home an amazing experience.

Originally a small fishing town, tourism to Playa del Carmen began with the passenger ferry service to Cozumel, an island across the Cozumel Channel and a world famous scuba diving destination.

Playa del Carmen has recently undergone extreme rapid development with new luxury residential condominium buildings, restaurants, boutiques and entertainment venues. There are plans to develop six luxury boutique hotels[citation needed], American chain restaurants, including Hard Rock Cafe, as well as a small upmarket shopping plaza offering designer boutiques, a cinema, luxury condominiums, and the first international House of Blues entertainment venue.[citation needed] Quinta Avenida is slated to become a cultural and economic stronghold for the Yucatan peninsula[citation needed] with the development of civic venues and up-market retail. Several luxury brands are currently developing retail locations; those under construction or already open include Louis Vuitton, Carolina Herrera, Paul & Shark, and Christian Dior. The department store Liverpool has opened their Riviera Maya flagship store in Playa del Carmen. Liverpool will anchor an urban lifestyle center.[citation needed]

Tourist activity in Playa del Carmen centers on Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, which stretches from Calle 1 norte to Calle 40. A pedestrian walkway located just one or two blocks inland from the beach, Fifth Avenue is lined with hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants. There are many small boutique hotels on and just off Fifth Avenue and on the beach.

Playacar is a residential and tourist development in Playa del Carmen just south of the main urban area. Most of the all-inclusive hotels, the aviary and the golf course are located in this development. There are two phases — phase 1 is mostly residential with a few hotels and some stores, while phase 2 contains the largest all-inclusive resorts as well as the golf course and a significant number of residential properties. Playacar was developed starting in 1979 by Mr. Fernando Barbachano’s company, Compania Impulsora Turistica de Playa del Carmen, S.A. The development was later sold to Aircoa, an American corporation, which later sold the development to SIDEK of the Martinez Huitron family and more recently sold to Mr. Ernesto Echeverria.
